Dont Forget: The Apple Watch is Still Vaporware

Apple shared some cool technology today. One of which, the Apple Watch is an edition that’s welcome to the attempt on defining smart watches. But as spectators, reviewers, and commentators rage on about how great or bad they think the Apple Watch is, keep in mind that it’s still just vaporware.

Vaporware, as Wikipedia would have it, is “often announced months or years before its purported release, with development details lacking. At times, software vendors are criticized for intentionally producing vaporware in order to keep customers from switching to competitive products that offer more features.”

Too many people, if you take a close look into the comment section of the more popular blogs, are referring to the Apple Watch as being a few steps ahead of Android Wear. The reality here is that for the Apple Watch to be ahead of Android Wear devices is simply impossible. A device that cannot be sold cannot be ahead of the game. It’s not even a part of the game at this point. Something that is not in the game cannot be a game changer.

Everyone is struggling to define the smartwatch market. Samsung has already done several iterations to see what works and what doesn’t work. Asus, Motorola and LG have either launched a smartwatch already or will be launching more in the near future (within 30 days). The Apple Watch cannot compare to these right now. It’s not a released product. Looking at Apple’s website, it reinforces the point I’m trying to make:

Features are subject to change. This device has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained.

Moving a step beyond that, by the time the Apple Watch does come out, all the comparisons that are being made today will be at least six months old. In fact, I’m willing to bet that by the time that Apple launches the Apple Watch, We will be seeing better attempts at Android Wear being launched with substantial upgrades to Android Wear by Google.

Apple needs more time to figure their Apple Watch out. What they have so far, is a decent start, but it’s obviously not ready to be put on the market. If it were, it would be on the market. There’s no way around that.

  1. >the Apple Watch is a welcomed edition (sic) to the attempt

I’m done. I don’t care what you have to say anymore after that.

Go back over all your idioms, learn them back to front and front to back, and then you can come back to writing.

    >It’s not even apart (sic) of

GAH! Why did I keep reading‽

    >The Apple Watch cannot compare to theses (SIC) right now.
